The Macrohistory Lab at the University of Bonn and CEPR are organizing a “European Macrohistory Workshop” which will be held on June 3-4, 2016 in Bonn, Germany.
The workshop aims to bring together economic historians and macroeconomists. The first day will be devoted to general topics in macroeconomics and financial history while the second day will focus on the central role of housing markets in shaping the dynamics of the macroeconomy. In particular, the objective of the workshop is to discuss new research on the evolution of housing markets and housing finance in Europe since the 19th century.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- Interaction of housing markets and the macroeconomy
- Land price trends at the national and regional levels
- Long-run returns on housing investment
- Political economy of rental regulation and real estate taxation
- Housing policy, home ownership and mortgage finance
- House price booms and busts and consequences for financial stability
- Household portfolio choice and asset pricing
Complete manuscripts or 3-page drafts should be submitted in PDF format to macrohistory@uni-bonn.de no later than Monday, March 7, 2016. The authors of accepted papers will be notified by Friday, March 25, 2016. Only authors of accepted papers will be notified.
Accommodation and travel expenses will be covered for programme participants. Any financial support that is offered will be in accordance with the CEPR’s expense guidelines.
